Webinar: Why Purpose? Why Now? Why You?

Wed 18th Mar 2020, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm (AEST)

Register Now

DETAILS

It’s difficult to read any business or marketing publication these days without seeing an article on Purpose featured. Hopefully though, you’re not just hurtling blindly towards developing a catchy purpose statement so you can say you’ve joined the ranks of Purpose-led organisations. Equally, you shouldn’t be burying your head in the sand thinking “this too shall pass”, because it won’t. Purpose is only going to gain more power as a movement. So it’s essential to ask questions and get solid answers on why there is so much fuss about Purpose and how that may be relevant to your business. If you’re progressing with only partial information, you’re walking into a minefield.

This webinar will answer these questions. It is Part 1 of a 3-part series on Purpose, aiming to deconstruct the context of Purpose, the pitfalls of Purpose and the solid foundations of a good Purpose strategy.

The webinar series is relevant to:
– Leaders of medium-sized organisations between 50-200 employees
– C-suite leaders and Heads of Marketing and HR of large organisations
– Small business founder/owners and entrepreneurs

Details on the full webinar series here.

A festival of cutting-edge ideas and inspiration.

The goal of this 3-day ideas festival is to explore and explain how we can shift direction—from a single globalized market towards economies that support renewal, resilience and greater human and planetary wellbeing. This gathering will emphasize the systemic root cause of our many interconnected ecological, social and economic crises, and identify key strategic shifts towards economic localization that can solve them.

From food, land, water and human settlements, to businesses, knowledge systems, innovation, production and consumption, this festival focuses on translating understanding into action.

Within this context, the 2020 Conference has three key themes:

  • Understanding the dominant economic system and global market
  • and its impact on democracy and local economies
  • Showcasing and amplifying strategies for reclaiming local economies for the benefit of people and planet
  • Stories of success – challenging corporate domination of national, regional and local economies

Art of Hosting WA: How can we shift the quality of our conversations for a future in which people and planet thrive?

March 29, 5:00 pm – April 1, 4:00 pm

DETAILS

The Art of Hosting & Harvesting Conversations that Matter.

Everything is changing. Radical shifts in our ecological, social, political, emotional and economic landscapes are required. The long view, the future, is present to us now. We have choices to make. What new ways of being and doing will serve us and our planet?

To imagine and respond to the new world that is emerging we need to learn to work with ourselves and others across difference, to have conversations that generate possibilities for a brighter future. Our worldviews, our mindsets and the deepest stories we tell about the world can be remade into new shared paths for walking into the uncertain future together.

The Art of Hosting and Harvesting Conversations that Matter (also known as the Art of Participatory Leadership) offers simple and powerful participatory practices, patterns and processes to host generative conversations. These approaches have been used effectively in diverse contexts worldwide to harness collective wisdom, encourage compassionate leadership, and create better social and environmental outcomes.

We warmly invite you to join this first 3-day introductory training in Western Australia. It will be held at Roelands Village in the Bunbury region – formerly an Aboriginal mission and home to over 500 stolen generation children. Today it is run by an Aboriginal organisation looking to create a positive place of healing and development for the children of the mission and their families – creating an area where culture can be rediscovered and opportunities can begin to grow.

DETAILS

As the move towards a purpose-driven economy picks up speed, we invite business leaders to attend this value-packed full-day workshop. Participants will walk away with a practical plan to unlock the full value of a Purpose-led approach for their business, leveraging their existing partnership assets.

This workshop will be led by two like-minded industry experts – Carolyn Butler-Madden who helps business leaders drive profit through purpose and Sam Trattles, who works with business leaders to secure maximum value from their partnerships. Together they believe organisations led by purpose make for happier, more productive teams; with healthier, sustainable revenues; and marketing programs that attract aligned customers/clients.

Ethics At Work Workshop: What does your decision making style say about you?

12:45 – 16:30pm

DETAILS

In today’s business world, people are expected to work in multi-faceted complex environments; navigate policy and regulations; create lasting relationships built on trust, and make fast and significant decisions every day. Being overloaded with information, opinions and expectations is a normal operating mode for people. It’s blurry and not many people feel comfortable in this space.

Ethics At Work will equip you with resources to put ethics into focus in your workplace. You’ll be introduced to useful tools that help you unpack, think and be more informed and strategic about how you approach work and the decisions you make.

Ethics At Work is a half-day workshop that will help you gain relevant and contemporary knowledge about applied ethics that is practical and easy to put into action both professionally and personally. Wisdom | Courage | Action

The fifth Impact Investment Summit Asia Pacific takes place from 13-14 November 2019 at Doltone House, Darling Island Wharf, Sydney.

It’s time to move the needle on impact investing – we are at a critical fork in the road. In one direction, the sector continues to mature, which necessitates courageous action and leadership, and in the other, we risk losing momentum.

There has never been a more urgent time to shift to the new paradigm of RISK-RETURN-IMPACT, and to collectively (in the words of impact investing pioneer Sir Ronald Cohen) “align the minds of investors, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, social organisations, big business, and governments, so that we can root out persistent problems. It is time for us all to gather around the new watchword of our young century: impact”.

Our values inform, guide and influence our thoughts, words, decisions and actions. When we are working with clients, in teams and in our organisations, it’s mission critical to get clear on the shared values that are important and that will guide how you work together to achieve your collective vision.

With a set of values, and a shared way of working together, you build internal cohesion within a group, as well as trust and respect.

These elements underpin the success of your endeavours.

> Create a common language and understanding of how you will go about things within a team, organisation and with clients
> Bring coherence and meaning to product and service design, culture and behaviour
> Ensure everyone is working on the same page and know how to go about things togethe
> Define a guiding framework of the right and good way to make decisions, work through dilemmas and tensions
> Guide in choices like who you recruit into a team or organisation to ensure alignment
> Build cohesion and trust, connecting people meaningfully across a team and organisation

A previous participant in Barasa’s programs had this to say: “Barasa’s program was a tremendous experience. Not only did it help us to better understand the power of a well-crafted set of values and purpose, but also how transformative these tools can be to realising an organisation’s goals. NENA 2019 Annual Conference, Perth – ‘Beyond Paradigms’

4-7 October

Register

DETAILS

New Economy Network Australia (NENA) and the enkel collective invite peers in innovation and positive changemaking from across the New Economy spectrum for the 4th annual NENA conference. Titled “Beyond Paradigms,” it proposes that meeting the unique and urgent challenges facing humanity in the 21st century calls for new approaches, an openness to exploring worldviews other than our own, clarity in our communications, collaboration, and practical ways to navigate the ever-increasing complexity of our times.

The event is intended to serve those who have the courage of their convictions, but also the flexibility to entertain—and even embrace—divergent worldviews. Building this capacity is essential as we encounter and move through the extraordinary changes we face now, as a society and as a species.

The inspiration for the conference’s overarching theme, Beyond Paradigms, comes from Donella Meadows’ work, in which she describes the most effective points of leverage to intervene in a system as
a) the mindset from which a given paradigm arises, and
b) transcending paradigms entirely.

As human beings, deeply influenced by the contexts and cultures from which we come, we view our worlds through filters and lenses. The question then becomes, as we encounter each other, are we building bridges or walls between our views? Can we remove our own lenses, and try on someone else’s, even for a moment?

The future of humanity, and of our precious planet, may well depend on it.

Ready to Collaborate? Building great leaders continues to be a challenge for Corporate Australia.  With more than 50% of employees disengaged in most organisations, business leaders have struggled to create inspiring and engaged workplaces which helps employees navigate change. With the rate of change continuing to increase, there is a need for a more human, collaborative and customer centric leader who has a deeper understanding of their own leadership values and puts stakeholders at the heart of everything they do. This purposeful leadership development workshop will help employees connect to and identify with the purpose and values of the NFPs and how that relates to their own leadership  capability to lead and inspire change. It is the beginning of a series of events — outcomes from the day will set the agenda for the next event to create a sustainable program for leadership development and creating social impact.
