The Great Reset - Awakening Perspectives
Friday, April 30th 2021 12:30 - 2:00 pm PT (AEST)

Details

Society and Capitalism as we know it are at a colossal crossroads.

In 2020, the World Economic Forum (WEF) launched The Great Reset, a global strategy to rebuild the foundations of our social and economic system. Prepared over the last decade and set into motion during the window of opportunity presented by COVID-19, the strategy is all-encompassing, impacting every area of our lives and calling for global leaders to execute it in their sphere.

We began conversations at our Members Town Halls on how 2020 might be a turning point for Capitalism, and what might that mean for Conscious Capitalists.

Since then, events have unfolded rapidly. We saw the launch of Imperative21, continued discussions at the WEF Davos event in January this year and first implementations in Australia and other regions of the world.

We now reconvene a public dialogue digging deeper into The Great Reset and what it means across the various facets of humanity – from our inalienable rights, to social justice & equity, business, climate change, individual freedoms, responsibilities, collective good, power, authority and obedience.

Gathering Around the Table: A Story of Purpose-Driven Change Through Business
Wednesday, March 24th 2021 8:00 am PT (US Time)

Details

Join author, Kari Warberg Block, and fellow powerful female CEOs and authors as they break down the elements of Kari’s newly launched CC Press book, “Gathering Around the Table: A Story of Purpose-Driven Change Through Business.” Tune in for an invigorating conversation about being an entrepreneur in today’s world, and learn about how Kari is turning the table and setting a place for aspiring entrepreneurs hoping to build a new sustainable economy that works in harmony with nature.

Kari Warberg Block, an unlikely disruptor, challenged an industry that by its very nature is toxic. As the Founder & CEO of EarthKind®, Kari discovered that 98% of pest control solutions sold were poison & kill methods – so she set out to invent a better solution: plant-based pest control powered by nature. Kari was the first to develop, manufacture, and commercialize poison-free rodent and insect repellents for farm and home use, with a mission to build a purpose-led company to create change through business. Her efforts have helped decrease consumer reliance on poison & kill based methods from 98% to 88% nationwide. Once a mom on food stamps, Kari started EarthKind® with nothing more than a package of garden seeds and a vision, and has built it into the $20 million company it is today.

With her first book, Gathering Around the Table: A Story of Purpose-Driven Change through Business, set for March 2021, Kari has achieved a lot, including nationwide product distribution, carbon neutrality, ingredient and supply-chain transparency, the invention of the first CPG bioplastic, and has helped lower consumer reliance on toxic pest-control methods by 10%. Selected as an Ernst & Young “Entrepreneurial Winning Women,” Kari has advised the SBA, Congress and the White House on policy that impacts women in business, receiving the 2019 GMDC Retail Champions of Change award for her role as an inspirational industry leader. She has been featured in CNBC, the New York Times, Huffington Post and Forbes.

The Transformative Power of Conscious Leadership: Trust, Empathy and Data
Tue, 8th December 2020, 11:00-11:45 am PT (US Time)

Details

As impact investor, CEO, and educator, James Rhee empowers people, brands and companies to fulfill their true potential by marrying capital with purpose. He creates value through values, transformation through self-reflection, and reinvention through Kindness and Math™. The story of the whys and the hows of the remarkable transformation of Ashley Stewart under his leadership has inspired millions of people, as well as the world’s leading businesses and organizations, to do better by being better.

In 2013, James, a long-time investor, challenged orthodoxy by parachuting into an insolvent Ashley Stewart as first-time CEO, a retailer that had quietly served Black women with plus-sized fashions in neighborhoods across the country since 1991. While fighting against crippling odds, ridicule and adversity, James authored and led a complement of marketing, philosophical, and mathematical changes that challenged societal conventions and simultaneously transformed a twice-bankrupt, insolvent brick-and-mortar retailer with decades of operating losses and no Wi-Fi into a cutting-edge, digitally-enabled industry leader.

In this session, James and Bridget will discuss the profound benefits of making knowledge, opportunity and capital accessible to all. Join us as James walks us through the novel customer/employee organizational dynamics he built at Ashley Stewart, his current work on the Governing Committee for the CEO Action for Racial Equity initiative and JP Morgan Chase Advancing Black Pathways, and his endeavors to teach a more mindful form of leadership through his roles at Duke Law School and the MIT Leadership Center.

When Stakeholder Impact Guides Purpose: How One Energy Company Integrated Stakeholder Orientation Through Every Aspect of their Work
Tue, 27th October 2020, 2:00-2:45 pm ET (US Time)

Details

In November of 2017, Jen Bowden (Vice President, Brand & Social Impact at IGS Energy, a 1.1 billion dollar energy company based in Columbus, Ohio), her colleagues on the IGS leadership team and Haley Boehning (Cofounder, Storyforge) were deep in preparations for a February all-company roll-out of a new strategic framework, including a compelling and aspirational vision for the future, and a unifying higher purpose to guide them on their journey based on bold and strongly-held beliefs about the future of energy. The problem? They had not one – but multiple – purpose statements. And no agreement on how to resolve this dilemma. Getting to one, unifying and aspirational higher purpose was a methodical process, with each word carefully considered, with insights from stakeholders guiding the debate … and challenging leadership positions.

In the years since these leaders committed to “building a meaningful energy future together” their higher purpose as a business been continually refined through deep exploration with each of IGS’s stakeholders, including those whose voices are more challenging to harness – the environment and the community at large. IGS has also become a major sponsor and driving force in the Columbus Conscious Capitalism Community.

Join Jen and Haley as they explore both the journey and exploration process at IGS Energy that led them to the goal of carbon neutrality by 2040 and the ‘how’ of working to unite the conscious business community to affect local change near their headquarters.

Reimagining Capitalism in a World on Fire
Tue, 22nd September 2020, 12:00 – 12:30 pm ET (US Time)

Details

Free market capitalism is one of humanity’s greatest inventions and the greatest source of prosperity the world has ever seen. But this success has been costly. Capitalism is on the verge of destroying the planet and destabilizing society as wealth rushes to the top. The time for action is running short.

Rebecca Henderson’s rigorous research in economics, psychology, and organizational behavior, as well as her many years of work with companies around the world, gives us a path forward. She debunks the worldview that the only purpose of business is to make money and maximize shareholder value. She shows that we have failed to reimagine capitalism so that it is not only an engine of prosperity but also a system that is in harmony with environmental realities, striving for social justice and the demands of truly democratic institutions.
